DETAILED REGULATIONS ON BNU YEARLY SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL DEGREE STUDENTS
I. Objective:
The objective is to encourage international students to work hard with great enthusiasm and to observe various laws and regulations.
II.Qualifications for application:
International degree students studying for bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees and trial students can apply. Undergraduate students can apply for scholarships based on their academic performance reflected by the examination results of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd academic year; and graduate students can apply for scholarships based on their academic performance reflected by the examination results of the 1st and 2nd academic year. Examination results of extended studying periods are not valid. Those who are graduating soon are not supposed to apply for this type of scholarship, but they can apply for Certificate for Excellent Academic Performance which is signed by the school president and sealed by BNU.
Students who apply for scholarships must abide by the laws and regulations of PRC and obey BNU rules. They must work hard with great enthusiasm, be of good conduct, respect teachers and be friendly to the Chinese.
Students can apply only if they have finished at least 3 courses each semester and their examination results during the previous academic year must be up to the following standards:
a. Students who have got EXCELLENCE in the examinations of EVERY course of the previous academic year (make-up examination results are not valid) are qualified to apply for the 1st prize.
b. Students who have got GOOD in the examinations of EVERY course of the previous academic year (make-up examination results are not valid) are qualified to apply for the 2nd prize.
III. Quota for scholarships:
Government scholarship students: For doctor students, one 1st prize and one 2nd prize each academic year. For master students, one 1st prize and two 2nd prizes each academic year. For undergraduate students, one 1st prize and one 2nd prize each academic year.
Students on their own expenses: For doctor students, one 1st prize and two 2nd prizes each academic year. For master students, one 1st prize and two 2nd prizes each academic year. For undergraduate students, five 1st prizes (3 for students from the College of Chinese Language and Culture and 2 for students of other departments) and ten 2nd class prizes (7 for students from the College of Chinese Language and Culture and 3 for students of other departments) each academic year.
IV. Amount of money for each prize:
Government scholarship students: students who are awarded the 1st prize will receive 2 months' allowance and students who are awarded the 2nd prize will receive 1 month's allowance.
Students on their own expenses: Doctor students who are awarded the 1st prize will receive 10,000 RMB; the 2nd prize is 6,000 RMB. Master students who are awarded the 1st prize will receive 8,000 RMB; the 2nd prize is 5,000 RMB. Undergraduate students who are awarded the 1st prize will receive 6,000 RMB; the 2nd prize is 4,000 RMB.
V. Scholarship evaluation process:
Applicants fill in the Application Form (see the attachment) and hand in the form to their Schools (Departments or Institutes).
Their Schools (Departments or Institutes) are supposed to supply written evaluations on the forms. The written evaluations must carry the signature of the person in charge and must be sealed by the Schools (Departments or Institutes) before turning in to the Office.
An evaluation panel made up of personnel from the Office of International Students' and Visiting Scholars' Affairs, BNU Graduate School and related Schools (Departments or Institutes) is to rank all the applicants and to decide the list of winners according to applicants' application and to the written evaluations of their Schools (Departments or Institutes).
Time of evaluation: Applicants are expected to turn in the Application Form to their Schools (Departments or Institutes) before September 20th every year. The Schools (Departments or Institutes) are supposed to turn in the Forms with written evaluations to the Office of International Students' and Visiting Scholars' Affairs before September 30th. In the middle of October, the panel is supposed to discuss the issue and declare the evaluation results. A grant will be vacant if no applicant is qualified for that year.
VI. Giving out awards:
In the middle of every October, leaders of the university will give out the certificates and the scholarships (in the form of cards) to the winners.
