About Jiangsu University of Science and Technology
History
Jiangsu University of Science and Technology is located in Zhenjiang City, the famous historical and cultural city enjoying beautiful landscape at the south bank of Changjiang Rive, dates back to year 1933 when it was known as Shanghai Dagong Private Vocational School, originally established at the bank of Huangpu River. JUST was successively renamed several times in history, namely Shanghai Mechatronics Industrial School, Shanghai Shipbuilding Industrial School, Zhenjiang Shipbuilding Technical School (moved to Zhenjiang in 1970), in 1978 the school upgraded to be Zhenjiang Shipbuilding College and renamed Eastern China Shipbuilding Institute in 1993. With the merging of Jiangsu Jianghai Trade School in 1999 and Silkworm Industry Institute of CAAS in 2000, it’s then given the current name of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology in 2004. In December 2006, JUST passed undergraduate education evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education with excellent scores.
Colleges and Majors
JUST currently comprises 13 colleges, 48 undergraduate majors and orientations, one doctor's degree authorization center, 27 master's degree authorization centers, 8 engineering masters training fields, one agriculture promotion master’s degree training field, one state-level characteristic major, one key major constructed by National Defense Science and Industry Committee, one major of provincial brand, one major to be constructed as provincial brand, three provincial characteristic majors, two majors to be constructed as provincial characteristic, one National Key Discipline Construction Spot of Jiangsu Province, five provincial key disciplinary areas, three provincial or ministerial key labs, one provincial public technology service platform, 27 teaching labs (centers), two provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, as well as three spots to be constructed as provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers.
Students & Teaching Staffs
JUST recruits students from 31 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) across the country as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. At present, JUST has over 20,000 students, of whom are 1700 post graduates (incl. those of specialized degree) and 18000 undergraduates. The PLA has set up an office in JUST for reserve officer selection and training, and presently JUST has over 500 national defense students. At present, JUST has total 1800 teaching staff members including over 1000 full-time teachers, above 100 professors and more than 300 associate professors.
