Originally found in 1951 as China Texitile University, Donghua University is under the direct administration of Ministry of Education (MOE) in China. Advantageous Geographic Location and Brilliant History

Donghua University has in total three campuses, that’s :the Yan'an Road. Campus, the Songjiang Campus and the Xinhua Road. Campus, covering a total area of 147 hectares. The beautiful campuses have been honored as"Garden-like Unit of Shanghai".

Founded in June 1951, Donghua University was originally named East-China Textile Institute of Science and Technology. In September 1985, she changed her name to China Textile University and changed once again to Donghua University in August 1999. She has been a state-key university since 1960 and is one of the first educational institutions in China that have been authorized to confer all the three-level degrees: bachelor's, master's, and doctorate.

Basic Information

After half a century's development, Donghua University has developed from a single disciplinary textile institute into a multi-disciplinary university with engineering as its main focus and natural science, management and liberal arts developing correspondingly.

At present Donghua University has 12 colleges including College of Textiles, College of Fashion & Art Design, College of Material Science & Engineering, Glorious-Sun School of Business & Management, College of Mechanical Engineering, College of Information Science & Technology, College of Computer Science & Technology, College of Environmental Science & Engineering, College of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, College of Foreign Languages, College of Basic Sciences, College of Humanities. Besides, there are also Department of Physical Education, International Cultural Exchange School and DHU-Lasalle International Design College which is jointly run and managed by both Donghua University and Lasalle College.

Donghua University has three postdoctoral programs and has been authorized to offer 24 doctoral programs, 48 master programs and 39 bachelor programs. The disciplines of Donghua fall into nine major categories including engineering and natural science. She has four state-key disciplines, three Shanghai municipal key disciplines, a batch of state and ministry key laboratories, national and ministry engineering research centers. The National University Science Park of Donghua has just been established. The university has a total enrolment of over 20,000 students and a faculty and staff of over 3,300, including four academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, two professors specially engaged as "Changjiang Scholars" and about 600 full and associate professors.

Teaching and Education

Known as the cradle for textile professionals in China, Donghua University adheres to her good school spirit of "strictness, diligence, concreteness and innovation" and fully implements her idea of "all-around development of students is the center of everything". She aims to educate talents of both ability and moral integrity with her excellent teaching and management. In recent years Donghua University has been deepening the new reform on the credit system. Based on the common sense education, she carries out "specialist education with broad coverage and flexibility" to all the students. Individual competence-based instruction has been made to those who have more capabilities. Students are satisfied with the new education mode for having met their needs for individual development and the need for training of versatile talents.

In the past few years, students of Donghua have won a lot of high-grade awards and prizes in such national and international competitions as International Collegiate Programming Contest, American Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM), "Challenge Cup Chinese Collegiate Business Plan Competition", National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest and CCTV Cup National Model Contest. The graduates are in great demand in the job market. The employment rate for postgraduate students has reached 100% for six successive years. In 2003 and 2004, the employment rates for graduates were 97.07% and 98.30% respectively, while the rates for graduates from the vocational college reached 97.90% and 98.80% separately.

Scientific Research

Backed up by state-key disciplines including textile engineering, material science, textile chemistry and dyeing & finishing engineering, fashion design and engineering, Donghua University concentrates her efforts on the cross-disciplinary building, and endeavors to develop advantageous traditional disciplines as well as newly established disciplines. Besides, supported by the scientific innovation bases like state key laboratories and the National University Science Park, which cover the whole textile industry chain, Donghua University actively engages herself in scientific research. She combines education with research and industry, and serves the nation's and Shanghai's economic construction as well as social development. Scores of scientific researches have won National Award for Advancement in Science and Technology, National Award for invention, and the provincial as well as ministry-level awards for advancement in science and technology. For three successive years, different researches, such as "Development of Protective Materials for Surface of Space Suits", have been awarded the annual Ten Major Science Achievements of All Universities in China. In recent years, a batch of scientific research fruits has been applied in such fields as textile, new materials, aviation and spaceflight, agriculture, architecture, information, environmental protection, medical and health care.

Exchange and Cooperation

Donghua University has extensive international exchange and cooperation with foreign countries. It has established cooperative relationships with over 60 institutions as well as well-known enterprises around the world. A great number of overseas students from 83 countries have graduated from the university. Donghua University steadily pushes forward the development of joint programs such as Donghua-Carleton IMBA, Sino-German Education for Bachelor Degree of Light Chemical Engineering, and Sino-Japan Education for Bachelor Degree of Fashion Design & Engineering. It has successfully hosted major international conferences like International Fashion Forum of Shanghai International Fashion Culture Festival and the 83rd World Conference of Textile Institute. Through constant international communication, a dynamic, multi-aspect, and multi-channel prospect of international exchange network has come into being.

Liveing on Campus

Even though CIP students are not required to live on campus, but there are three International Student Apartments (ISAs), which are all renovated recently.

The dormitories are located inside the campus and within 5 minutes walking distance to the International Education Center Building, in which students have most classes.

There are six types of rooms in three categories: single room, double room and suite. Private bathroom, hot running water, bedding, furniture, A/C, telephone, TV set, fridge, and Internet Jack are equipped in each room. Public kitchen and Drinking water filter (hot & cold) are available on each floor. Professional laundry room is available on the first floor of the 3rd apartment with washing, drying & pressing service provided by skilled laundrymen. In addition, washing machines are equipped every other floor with 3 CNY per load. ISAs is safe, clean and secure. Surveillance system is equipped on each floor and only students with ICES student ID card that has been activated as the room card or persons with permissions can enter the building. In addition, Security men are in the ISAs 24/7. Two dining halls are close to the ISAs, where Chinese breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served.

Yan'An Road Campus

International Students at the West Yan’An Road campus will live in one of the three International Student Apartments. All apartments have both single and double rooms available. Each room contains a private bath, furniture, A/C, telephone, Television, refrigerator and internet. Each floor also provides washing machines and a community kitchen with electric stoves and microwave. Students can use a washing machine card to wash their own clothes or may use the charge laundry services in the Laundry Room on the First Floor of Apartment #1 instead. Washing machine cards can be purchased in the Laundry Room. A Washing Machine Card costs 30Y for 10 washes. Laundry Services charge based on the services needed. For security reasons, all international student apartments are only accessible by using your international student card. Visitors can be signed in at the entrance security desk, but are not permitted to stay overnight.

There are two dining halls on West Yan’An Road campus. They are referred to as #1 and #2. Dining Hall #1 has three floors. The first and second floors contain a variety of Chinese foods, including steamed foods, a noodle station, a bakery, a cooked-to-order station, and a hot skillet station. The third floor contains the school restaurant and the Muslim dining hall. Dining Hall #2 contains another bakery/snack stand and more Chinese foods options. All Dining Halls use an electronic card system. Your dining card can be obtained at the International Student Office #122 and more money can be added at the second floor window of Dining Hall #1. Breakfast is available from 7:00-9:00 AM, lunch from 11:00-13:30, and dinner from 16:30-21:00.

Songjiang Campus

International Students at Songjiang Campus will live in the teacher's house for the moment, each student has one separate room with bath room,furniture,A/C,telephone, Television, refrigerator and internet inside. In addition, public service facilities like washing machine, microwave, drinking water machine are provided in the same building.

Students live on Songjiang Campus have many options to have meal, two dining halls on campus with a Muslim dining place, many restaurants in Songjiang university town street which is just 5 minutes to go.

Graduation certificate should be in Chinese or English.If not, it should be translated into Chinese or English and be notarized.

6.Photocopy of 1st page to 7th page of your valid passport
Concerning about your entering/exiting any other countries. If students have never been to any other country, please give us the copy version of passport from the 1st page to the 7th page which demonstrated that have never been to any other country.
