Located in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing, Tsinghua University was established in 1911 on the site of “Qing Hua Yuan (Tsinghua Garden)” —a former royal garden of the Qing Dynasty. Tsinghua University is the best university in China and even one of the top universities in Asia.The university has 14 schools and 56 departments with faculties in science, engineering, humanities, law, medicine, history, philosophy, economics, management, education and art. Tsinghua University has a long tradition of actively developing strategic partnerships and collaborations with prestigious universities, international organizations and enterprises throughout the world.And it also provides rich English-taught courses of master's degree and doctoral degree for international students.

Architecture is a strongly comprehensive subject involving areas such as science, engineering, humanities and art. This subject features a combination of science and art as well as scientific engineering and humanities, thus demanding students to have an expansive knowledge and a strong ability of imagery. (Individuals with color blindness are not accepted into this major) Main courses include Mathematics, Fundamentals of Computer , Introduction of Building Technology, Architecture Design Studio, Principles of Urban Planning , Preliminary of Designing, Expression of Space Form, Pencil Sketch, Water Color Painting, Architecture Design Sketch, Water Color Rending, Engineering Technology, Engineering Mechanics, Structural Mechanics, Building Structure, History of Chinese Architecture, History of Western Architecture, History of Contemporary Architecture, Building Economics, Building Physics, Surveying and Drawing of Ancient Buildings, Design Practice and so on. Application Schedule On-line application: March 1 – March16, 2012.

Hardcopies of application materials due: March 19 - March 30, 2012.

Entrance Examination (1) Subjects of Written Examination for Science, Engineering and Management Programs: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English.

(2) Subjects of Written Examination for Law, Humanities and Social Sciences Programs: Basic Chinese Language, Chinese Writing, General Knowledge, and English.

(3) Subjects of Written Examination for Arts and Design Programs: Chinese Writing, General Knowledge, Sketch, Quick Sketch, and Color Painting.

Extra exams are requested for some programs: Sketch for Architecture Program, Oral Test for English and Japanese Programs, and Mathematics for Experimental Class of Social Sciences and Psychology.

Interview may also be requested by some department/schools. Date of Entrance Examination Written Examination: May 12 - 13, 2012

The applicants to be interviewed will be notified after written exams.

3 Steps to Apply to a Chinese University

1. Foreign citizens under 25 and in good health
2. Graduation from senior high school;
3. HSK Band 6 / new HSK Band 5 or aboveHydraulic and Hydropower Engineering.

1.  Photocopy of valid passport
With photo, passport number &expiration date and name included.

2.  Passport-sized photo
A passport-sized photo taken recently of the applicant.

3.  Graduation certificate of high school
Graduation certificate should be in Chinese or English.If not, it should be translated into Chinese or English and be notarized.

4.  Academic transcript of high school

5.  HSK Certificate (No need for English-taught program)
Level 3 or above

6.  Two recommendation letters
From professor,associate professor or equivalents.

7.  A notarization of guarantor in China
Only for applicants under 18 years old.
