The major of electronic information engineering originated from the applied electronic technology major established by Xi'an Institute of Technology in 1988, changed its name to the undergraduate major of electronic information engineering in 1996, merged into the School of Information Engineering of Chang'an University in 2000, was rated as a famous major of Chang'an University in 2006, was approved as a provincial characteristic major of ordinary colleges and universities in Shaanxi Province in 2011, was rated as a "pilot major of comprehensive professional reform" in Shaanxi Province in 2014, and was selected as a "first-class major" in Shaanxi universities in 2017.
In 2005 and 2010, the program was approved as a master's program in the second-level discipline of "signal and information processing" and a master's program in the first-level discipline of "information and communication engineering". There are 25 full-time teachers in this major, including 6 professors, 10 associate professors and 9 lecturers, forming two excellent teaching teams in Shaanxi Province composed of provincial famous teachers and Chang'an scholars.
