Located in Hangzhou, a city known for enchanting natural beauty and abundant cultural heritages, Zhejiang University of Technology is one of the top industrial universities in mainland China with engineering, especially chemical and biological engineering, as its strongest element. At present, the long-term Chinese language courses program and the summer course of short-term Chinese training are the favourites of International students. Apart from that, a total of 86 high-quality degree programs, such as advertising (bachelor's degree), architecture (master's degree), mechanical-electronical engineering (doctoral degree) etc. have been growing in popularity among foreign students as well. ZJUT equips itself with an excellent team of faculties. Among its 3200 staff, there are 410 professors,965 associate professors and over 870 teachers with doctor’s degree. ZJUT has one academician of CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering), three academicians of CAE and CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) whom ZJUT shares with other institutions, 43 teachers titled with “National Excellent Teacher” and 47 teachers with “Provincial Excellent Teacher”. At present, there are about 34,900 full-time students,7,256 graduate students including 6,823 postgraduate students and 433 PhD candidates and over 1012 international students.

Having established interscholastic cooperative relationship with about 60 colleges and universities from America, England, France, German, Japan, Belgium, Australia, Russia, Korea, the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, etc, and about 10 colleges and universities from Hong Kong and Macao, ZJUT becomes more and more active in external exchange, and makes great progress in many aspects, such as dual culture of students, academic exchange between teachers and scientific research, running schools with foreign countries, introduction of overseas intelligence, education of overseas students, teaching Chinese as foreign language, etc. So far, ZJUT has been entitled to recruit overseas students with Chinese government scholarship, CIS scholarship and scholarship of Zhejiang government, from about 75 countries and areas, coming to study Chinese language and culture, undergraduate courses and master courses.

I.EducationalObjectives

The program aims at training the professional and technical personnel in the domain of environmental engineering. The undergraduates are required to master basic theories and engineering expertise in controlling, treating and remediating water, air, soil and physical pollution as well as in disposing solid wastes. During the four years’ study, they should acquire the abilities of project designing and technical improvement relating to environmental engineering and broaden the view of humanities and social sciences. With the concept of sustainable development and the international vision, the talents will be competent of the work of designing, operation, management, research and development in government departments and enterprises.


II.Graduation Requirements

Graduates should develop the specialties in terms of :

1.Basic theories and knowledge of environmental engineering in the aspects of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, engineering graphics, applied electronics, principles of chemical engineering, environmental chemistry, environmental microbiology, ecological engineering, environmental monitoring, environmental planning and management.

2.Basic principles and design methods of water pollution control, air pollution control, noise pollution control, and solid waste management.

3.Skills of contaminant analyzing, environmental quality monitoring, environmental quality assessment, environmental planning and management.

4. Basic approaches of literature searching to obtain the cutting-edge information and development of environmental engineering and to prepare for the preliminary practical work.

5.Comprehending and translating the professional documents in English and working with computer software.

A Brief Survey of Zhejiang University of Technology




Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT), located in Hangzhou, a city famous for its pretty landscape, was established in 1953. Yet its history can be dated back further to 1910 when its original body—Zhejiang Intermediate Industrial School-- was founded. ZJUT is a key comprehensive university of Zhejiang province, covering a large range of disciplines like liberal arts, science, law, economics, pharmaceutical science, industrial and commercial management and education, etc.

ZJUT has 3 campuses, covering a total area of over 3200 Mu (equivalent to 213 hectares) with a floor space of over 830,000 square meters. ZJUT has 21 schools and 2 departments with full-time undergraduates of 28,000 and postgraduates of 1,600. Among its 2,800 staff members, there are over 800 professors and associate professors. ZJUT now has one academician of CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering), and three academicians of CAE and CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) whom ZJUT shares with other institutions of high education or research. The value of ZJUT’s fixed assets totals about 1.82 billion RMB. The university library has a collection of about 2,80 million volumes (including electronic books) and over 17,000 kinds of Chinese and foreign journals and periodicals.

ZJUT has 21 provincial key specialties, 7 provincial innovative bases, 2 provincial research bases for humanities and social sciences, one national key laboratory breeding base, one co-building key laboratory of Zhejiang province and the Ministry of Education. ZJUT also heads a national University-based High-tech Zone in Hangzhou. ZJUT has one post-doctoral station, 12 doctoral degree programs,71 master degree programs, and 55 undergraduate programs. Over 250 research achievements of ZJUT have won the National, Provincial and Ministry Prize in Scientific Inventions and the Prize of achievements in Scientific Researches, among which 10 projects have won the National Prize of Invention and the National Progress Prize in Science and Technology. In 2005, the numbers of applications for patents and those granted ranked respectively 12th and 28th among all the universities in China. Besides, in 2005, the funds ZJUT received for scientific research projects totaled 243 million RMB. In 2005, in terms of the articles excerpted by the three international index agencies—EI, SCI, and ISTP, ZJUT ranked respectively 55th, 62nd and 52nd among all Chinese universities according to EI, SCI, and ISTP statistics. ZJUT also ranks 91st among all the Chinese universities, according to the ranking made by the Management Science Institute of China.

Up to now, ZJUT has established partnerships with 38 universities from America, Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Australia, and Russia and so on, and is authorized to enroll overseas students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan districts.

Entry Requirements

1.The applicant, who is between18-25 years old, has graduated from high school, has achieved above level 4(including) in HSK can apply for programs taught in Chinese.

2.The high school graduate without certificate of HSK can apply for our Try-out Courses after approval by interview, the validity of trial period is one year.

3.Programs in English:

1) English is the native language/official language; or

2) IELTS5.5 or TOEFL 60; or

3) Studied courses taught in English in high school or college; or

4) English level admitted by ZJUT.
